2022.01.28 18:58 bawdyanarchist Good Ways to Deflect Criticism
I know this has probably been posted a dozen times before, but it's good to talk about how to handle criticism, especially since we're seeing a bit more of it lately.
The first and most important thing is to make sure that you appear calm and reasonable. Normally it's not the actual person you're trying to convince, but the onlookers who haven't made up their minds.
One of the first big mistakes people make, is discussing the details of logic, evidence, and philosophy of the topic. Getting into the weeds is for TheSmartGuys™. Instead, draw on the catch phrases already circulating. Don't worry if it doesn't totally fit the situation, the goal is to sound rhetorically good, while making your oppenent seem verbose and confusing.
The kinds of people who think deeply, study hard, and have formed strong opinions; are likely to eventually come across as insistent, or even blunt. Your goal is to help them get there, again, by using rhetoric. The is where you need to have a sense about your audience.
It's really a battle of framing. Your oppenent probably wants to focus on discussion of facts and evidence, while your goal is to reinforce what really matters: nicety and personal preference. Convert their insistence on evidence and logic, into impoliteness. Remind them that you're just stating a personal preference; and imply that their being intolerant, (but without staying that outright).
If you can eventually get them to use a phrase like "intellectual honesty," you're doing really well, and you can move into the final phase. You want to leave the conversation first, and leave them with some feel good advice that appears to come from a genuine place. It's a power move which signals your emotional superiority. Here's a good list of stuff to leave with:
"Well, I hope you have a nice day. Remember to go outside and [insert outdoorsy cliche]" - Touch grass - Get sunlight - Breath fresh air
"Maybe you need to take a deep breath, and calm down, go for a walk." - It doesn't matter if they were calm or not. Remember, it's a battle of frame.
"You seem confused. I hope you find what you're looking for. Goodbye."
And as a last resort, if it feels like they may have gotten the upper hand and said some stuff that sounds convincing, it's better not to press a losing battle. Simply leave them with something like:
"Will I personally like
And if maybe you let yourself get a bit heated too, just appeal to uncertainty: "Nobody knows fuck about shit"
Seems like people lately are being more critical of crypto, so I hope that this helps us to appear more welcoming and personable inside the crypto community!

2022.01.28 18:58 yeshereisaname Writing notes to talk to my therapist when I find a new one but I was wondering if you guys had any motivational thoughts or help? No worries if not but I’m kind of down in the dumps.
I have different topics like jobs, Covid, work etc but one thing I was crying about in bed last night was friends. Here’s the rant I wrote:

2022.01.28 18:58 AnonymousCSRantAcc Google Internship Phone Screening Experience
OA's - Two problems that had insufficient test cases for all edge cases, so you had to write better code than the simple test cases would imply.
Questionare - simple questions about my experience, where I want to work, ets
Phone Screening - two interviews 45 minutes back to back. First was dynamic programing. I made a couple stupid mistakes on the warm up but got it done. Explained the concepts very well, setup the code well, but needed a hint to finish it. I froze up on part of the DP loop. Idk how you'd rate that. Second interview started with an easy problem with a lot of conceptual follow ups and analysis, I did well. Concepts are my step suit.
I'd say 60% chance I move forward because of how bad I froze up in part one. What do you think?
